Life
Life is like water. We should adapt to it. I like running water. It is the strongest and mar incxhauslihle source of life in the world. Its strength lies in Its generosity, Its incessant running and Its adaptibility to any environment. To adapt is to conquer. The eonstant dropping of water wears away the stone. This is Its tenacity, stamina and persistence.
Water makes Its way through the mountains, Sometimes it runs and jumps in the valley. Sometimes it rushes down in the shape of a saran and sometimea it goes slowly forward in ripples and deep in emotion. Now it hides silently underground. Then it hangs high in the sky and distinguishes herself.
It is not afraitt of diffieulties, nor of twists and turns. It is willing to be a tiny drop of water. In short it can be as big and small and tolerant as it is.
In this world, tortunes and misfortunes are common. What matters is to keep quiet as water when disaster befalls The water keeps running and will never stop until it reaches the sea.
Olympic Flame
Now the 26th Centennial World Olympic Games are in full swing in Altanda. The Olympic flame is burning red and bright in the torch at the center of the Olympic square. Earlier before the official opening of the games it had been relayed one by one through the hands of runners, among them, students supported by the Chinese hope project. Thousands of people lined the struts to watch the relay.
The relay of the Olympic Flame is the symbol of the continuity between the ancient and modern Games. During the ancient Olympics a sacred flame burned at the altar of Zeus. A modern version of the flame was adopted for the Berlin Games in 1936, and the tradition has been observed ever since. The torch used to kindle the flame is first lit by the sun's rays at Olympia in Greece, and then carried to the site of the Games by relays of runners. Ships and planes are used when necessary.
The runners are specially chosen, All of them are hard working and as a result become overacbievers. The flame kindles the fire in everyone's heart to encourage people to go on and on and bring the Olympic spirit into full play.
Styles in Clothing
It was a warm day in spring. Having finished reading,I went out shopping and buught mysely a sweater and a skirt. The sweater is pink with decorations on the collar and sleeves. The skirt is black wool. They march very well. Seeing me in my new clothes, Sun Ling dashed out and bought a suit for herself. The sweater is exactly like mine. The skirt is a little different. As a result, last Monday, l was wearing the same clothes as she, and when we went out, we were taken for twin sisters.
My roommates Shi Ying and Wang Yan said to me that Sun Ling was not right. She should not have bought the same clothes as I did. I think it unreasonahle that just because I have bought the suit that no others should buy it either.
It is indeed strange of that girl Sun Ling. Besides the suit exactly like mine, she bought another suit of a thin flannel shirt and trousers. The style of her suit is exactly the same as that of Ah Qiu's. Only it is different in color. So one afternoon Ah Qiu shouted out to her, "Suit follower!" Have you ever seen such a case?
My Favourite TV Programme
Nowadays the 26th Olympic Games are being held in AtLanta. It is the most popular program all over the world and also my favourite progamme.
In 1992 I was watching the 25th Olympic Games on TV with my schoolmates in China. We cheered at every success the Chinese athelets had. As the Chinese national flag was rising and the national anthem ringing in my ears I was moved to tears just as the medalists. It is the happiest moment for them and for me. I am proud of being a Chinese.
Now that I am in America, things are different. I am so near to the games yet so far away emotionally from those watching around lite. Whenever the Chinese made a mistake, the Americans cheered, which angered me greatly. Each country wants every gold medal. That is understandable. The problem is that they have so much prejudice against our motherland.
I admired Wang Yifu's courage and stamina. He lost his gold medal because of his illness. As soon as he regretfully put down his gun, he fell unconscious and was earried away on a stretcher.
Mo Huilen also lost her gold medal painfully. The young girl was not satisfied with a silver and braved for the gold at the risk of losing it. She showed the true spirit of sportsmanship. I sing in praise of them even if they lose. In my opinion we should praetice what we preach and stick to the Olympic creed that the most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought wen.
