　　H: Karen, what’s your plan after graduation? Will you study further or find a job?

　　H:凱倫，你畢業(yè)后有什么打算?是繼續(xù)深造，還是找工作呢?

　　K: Well, I've decided to hunt for a job to support myself first What about you?

　　K:哦，我決定先找份工作養(yǎng)活自己。你呢?

　　H: I’m considering getting a MSc Degree in Modern Chinese Studies at the University of Oxford. The MSc is offered by the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies, which is one of the thirteen constituent parts of the Social Sciences Division, Oxford University.

　　H: I choose this major because I like Chinese culture very much, so I want to know more about his country,

　　K: Hum, China and Chinese culture have always attracted a considerable amount of interest. With its rapid economic growth in recent years, China has now become a. major player in the 21st century.

　　H: Right! The reason why I decide to go to Oxford University is that the University is the most active Chinese research centre in Europe, even across the world.

　　K: Do you mean the Oxford’s Institute for Chinese Studies?

　　H: No! What I referred to is the University of Oxford China Centre, which was founded in 2008. Though newly established, the centre has brought together academics from across the whole university to ensure full interdisciplinary interaction, and support a wide range of research projects.

　　H: Yeah! Academics of the centre are from across four different divisions, including Humanities; Social Sciences; Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences; Medical Sciences. As you know, there are merely four divisions at Oxford.

　　H: Er... the most influential two projects are the Contemporary China Studies Programme and the British Inter-university China Centre. Especially the Contemporary China Studies Programme, which has already been a focal point of a concerted effort in the University. Moreover, many academics from other Chinese research centres also take part in the programme.

　　K: Wow! That’s incredible! The Programme is able to attract so many academics from a variety of fields.

　　H: It's not surprising. After all, the University of Oxford China Centre is a world leading Chinese research centre.

　　K： Well, the centre should have a lot of strengths, right?

　　K:那這個(gè)中心應(yīng)該有很多優(yōu)勢(shì)吧?

　　H: Yeah! Currently, its main strengths of research on China include a comprehensive coverage of Chinese history, art history and literature; a multi-disciplinary approach to politics in contemporary China, including Political Science, International Relations, Anthropology, Economics and Sociology; cutting-edge research on the consequences of economic and social reform in contemporary China,

　　H： Right, that’s correct!

　　H:對(duì)，是這樣!

　　K: Well, By the way, what’s the course arrangement of the MSc in Modem Chinese Studies you want to choose?

　　H： It is a three-term, nine-month course. It is designed so to ensure the graduate students obtain high quality research training, with an emphasis on grasping research methods.

　　H:課程分為3個(gè)學(xué)期，為期9個(gè)月。之所以這樣安排課程是為了確保研究生得 到高質(zhì)量的科研訓(xùn)練，課程重點(diǎn)是掌握研究方法。

　　K: Not bad! You only need to spend one year to get the Degree.

　　H: Right! However, I’m still in application.
