一、一般情況下，if 和 whether 均可用在轉(zhuǎn)述一般疑問句的間接引語中引導(dǎo)賓語從句。例如：
He asked me whether/if we wanted a drink. 他問我們是否要喝點(diǎn)東西。
He didn’t know whether/if she was a nurse. 他不知道她是否是一位護(hù)士。
但在有些動詞后多用whether 不用if。如：

當(dāng)然，在口語中有時也說“if you can come or not”，但whether后面可以直接跟or not, if后則不行。如上句可改為：
Let me know whether or not you can come.
三、在介詞后只能用whether，不能用 if。如：
There was a big argument about whether we should move to a new house. 關(guān)于我們是否應(yīng)搬新家發(fā)生了激烈的爭論。
It depends on whether the letter arrives in time. 這取決于信是否來得及時。
四、在帶to的不定式前只能用whether，不能用 if。如：

She hasn’t decided whether to go or not. 她還沒決定去還是不去。
五、在引導(dǎo)主語從句，表語從句和同位語從句時，一般只能用whether不用 if。如：

The question is whether the man can be trusted.(表語從句)問題是那個人是否可以信任。
引導(dǎo)表語從句時，只有在特別非正式的語體中可用if。如：
