　　a. 連接對(duì)等的單詞、短語和從句

　　單詞：

　　Not only I but also he is wrong.

　　She is not only kind but also graceful as well.

　　短語：

　　I came not only to see you but (also) to say goodbye to you.

　　He was fired not only because of his laziness but (also) because of his failure to meet my requirements.

　　從句：

　　He was fired not only because he was lazy but because he failed to meet my requirements.

　　b. 連接對(duì)等的句子，由于not only 置于句首，視為否定副詞，第一個(gè)句子倒裝。But also 僅為連接詞，故其后的第二個(gè)句子不需要倒裝，但also則一定要省略，或移到句中。也可以將also省略后而在句尾處加as well。

　　Not only can she sing, but she can (also) dance.

　　Not only can she sing, but she can dance as well.

　　Before I left, not only had I closed the door, but I had (also) cleaned the room.
