What kind of music do you prefer? Country music is my favorite. When you are tired after studying hard, it is helpful to listen to American country music. The music will take you to mountains and fields.
Country music usually talks of everyday life and feelings. It's the spirit of America, easy to understand, slow and simple.
Country music developed in the southern states of America. It was the folk music of the American countryside. The singers usually used guitars and accordions(手風(fēng)琴). The name of our galaxy, the Milky Way, comes from its appearance. It’s a milky white band of glowing light that spreads across the night sky. If you look up at the evening sky, there’s a good chance you will not be able to see what your grandmother saw when she was a little girl. A new study says that nearly 80 percent of people in North America can’t see the Milky Way because of light pollution.
The most light-polluted country in the world is Singapore where researchers found that people living in the country never have the chance to experience true darkness. Other countries with large percentages of people living under such skies include Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
Too much light has a direct effect on human physiology and behavior. It can also destroy our sleep cycle. What’s more, it also affects wildlife. For example, baby turtles may not swim into the ocean because of street lights near shorelines
In the U.S., some communities have been taking action on light pollution but in developing countries, people still want to make bigger, brighter light, like LED lights. They can save energy, but on the other hand they will increase light pollution rapidly in fact.
There are still people that can remember when they used to be able to see the Milky Way, when they would walk outside at night, but those are becoming fewer and fewer.
Nighttime natural scenery needs protection just like daytime scenery. Don’t let the Light pollution rob us of the chance to experience the wonder of a natural night sky.
34. Why do we call galaxy the Milky Way?

Many expressions that we use in American English come from novels. Today we will look at some of them from Lewis Carroll’s famous novel “Alice in Wonderland” in detail.
The story is about a young girl falling down a rabbit hole. When she finally lands, she finds herself in a strange world and meets some strange characters.
The first character Alice meets is the White Rabbit, who runs past her and says some strange words. Alice runs after him, and that is where her adventures begin.
In English, chasing a white rabbit means chasing an impossible clue and finding yourself in a misleading situation.
Then, as she runs after the rabbit, she falls down the rabbit hole into Wonderland.
To fall down the rabbit hole can mean to enter a situation which makes people feel puzzled. However, usually we use this expression to mean we get interested in something to the point of distractions(分神). It often happens by accident and is about something not that meaningful.
Later in the story, Alice meets the March Hare and the Hatter at a crazy tea party. Hares(野兔)have long been thought to behave excitedly in March, which is their mating(交配)season. Scientifically, this may not be true. But to be mad as a March Hare means that someone is completely mad, or crazy. The expression mad as a Hatter also means to be completely crazy. Of the two, mad as a Hatter is more common.
Near the end of the story, Alice meets the Queen of Hearts. A woman who is called a Queen of Hearts likes controlling others and always tries to control everything and everyone around her.
42. Which of the following situations best fits the expression “to fall down a rabbit hole”?
A. When Jack was sitting in the study, he got bored with the homework and felt sleepy.
B. When Sue turned On the TV, she chose to watch her favourite programme as usual.
C. When Jim was looking for a sport book online, he lost himself in reports on superstars.
D. When Lily was thinking about how to solve a math problem, she came up with a good idea.
43. According to the passage, the expression “to be mad as a March Hare” .
A. describes how hares behave in March
B. shows hares’ characteristics in a funny way
C. is used more often than the expression mad as a Hatter
D. has the same meaning as the expression mad as a Hatter
44. Which of the following characters wants others to obey his or her orders in every situation?
A. Alice. B. The March Hare. C. The Hatter. D. The Queen of Hearts.
45. The writer mainly wants to ________in this passage.
A. introduce a famous novel and its language style
B. introduce a famous writer Lewis Carroll and his novels
C. explain some English expressions from a famous novel
D. explain why many expressions in English come from novels

Communication is important for strong family relationships. However, if you don’t truly listen to others, it can be difficult to communicate. Working on your listening skills can help you communicate better and form stronger bonds.
Stay in the present
When listening to a family member, do not think about anything else. Put your phone away and give the speaker your full attention. It’s important to try to stay in the present to make your family member feel heard and valued.
Pay attention to what is being said. Make understanding the speaker’s thoughts the most important thing at the moment.
Use body language
If you want the family member to feel valued, make sure to show that you are listening. You can do it by using body language. Nod as the speaker talks. Smile when it is suitable. Keep eye contact.
Do not cut in
Cutting in can prevent you from communicating effectively. No matter how excited you feel about a subject, do not start talking until the family member has finished. Always allow a few seconds of silence after the speaker finishes talking before offering your reply. This allows you to make sure the speaker has finished, and gives the speaker a chance to fully express himself.
Ask questions
Part of listening is understanding. If there is anything in the conversation you don’t understand, please ask after the family member finishes. This shows you are truly listening to him and value his thoughts.
Ask questions that encourage open discussions. For example, “What do you think of the situation?” Don’t ask “why” questions, which might make the speaker feel uncomfortable.
Follow these tips, listen actively to your family to help communication run smoothly and build strong family relationships.

Around 80 examples of failed products, business and ideas are showed in the newly opened museum in Sweden. It is to celebrate modern history’s _____75____ designs ---from Coca-Cola Blak, a coffee-inspired drink, to Bic pens made just for women.
Besides showing long-forgotten failure, founder Dr. Samuel West is on a task to help us learn from our mistakes. Samuel set up the museum after growing ___76______ success stories. He said understanding bad design could be more valuable than ____77____ good design.
“Most of all creative projects fail, and learning is the only way to turn failure into success.” according to the museum’s website. “I hope that visitors take home two _______78_____: that failure is connected with success, and that they should understand the importance of learning from failure,” said Dr. West.
“The purpose of the museum is to show that creativity requires failure,” Dr. West said as he introduced some of the products in a video. “If you are afraid of failure, then you can’t create.” So the organizations will not ignore(無視) them and pretend they ___79___ happened.
Many of the museum’s items were available online. West believed that ___80____ products have little in common with one another. One of the items, for example, is a frozen beef lasagna(意式千層面) made by Colgate(Yes, the company that makes toothpaste). West described this as a classical case of “brand extension failure.”
A collection of nine objects from the museum is our tour. The traveling collection of failures will then visit Los Angeles, New York, Shanghai and Tokyo in 2018 and 2019.
History may be written by the winners, but we should not ignore the losers. At least, that’s what the Museum of Failure wants us to believe.
