I have always enjoyed studying Maths, Physics and Chemistry, and I would like the opportunity to continue this study. Chemical Engineering appeals to me because of the challenges involved in the application of scientific theory to practical, real world problems such as how to deal with nuclear waste. I particularly look forward to studying fluid dynamics as I was introduced to this during the Engineering Education Scheme (EES). I am aware that in today’s world chemical engineering has an increasingly important role across a wide range of industries from pharmaceuticals to petrochemicals. The broad range of career paths, and the opportunity to contribute to society through technological innovation, is for me, one of the main attractions of chemical engineering.
I have applied to take part in the Year In Industry scheme during which I hope to gain practical experience, as well as greater maturity enabling me to go into my degree course with improved skills and broader experience. I also hope to study e-learning courses on project management and presentation skills run by the IChemE. In Year 12 I took part in the EES, which improved my understanding and skills in team working, time management, and report writing, as well as visual and oral presentation. Throughout the course of the project the team had to frequently correspond with mentors in industry and academia and this experience has broadened my appreciation of practice and application in a real life situation. In July I attended a week-long ‘Into Engineering’ seminar run by REACT Engineering. Working in two teams, we were given a design exercise based upon a typical decommissioning project. I also attended a Headstart course at Newcastle University, which I thoroughly enjoyed. One of the main activities was to design, manufacture and test a small crane. I found both of these experiences very challenging, as we were given only limited time so we had to prioritise our tasks and carefully plan our work.This year a fellow student and I were awarded £500 by the European Scholarship Prize to fund a visit to Prague to do research for our A-level History coursework. I gained an understanding of the city’s culture and history and further developed my independence. During the summer I represented my school on a Connexions review of a government white paper on 14-19 education. I gained an insight into the government’s proposals and learned a lot about working with different groups of people. Last year I was part of the editorial team for the school magazine. I wrote a number of articles and I was responsible for ensuring that staff contributions were ready for the deadline. I also enjoy participating in a range of sports and have represented the school at football and cricket, which has further enhanced my team working skills.In my spare time I am working towards my Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. In September I completed a 4-day expedition in the Lake District, which tested my endurance but gave me a great sense of achievement. As part of the award I have been helping at the local youth café once a week, which I am really enjoying as it gives me the chance to meet new people. I also enjoy reading, particularly books on physics and Russian history. I am really interested in computers and I am currently trying to configure a Linux based file and print server for my home network.
For admission to a university in England you have to fill in a form from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). They for a very reasonable fee provide all applicants to unversities and colleges in the UK with a way to apply to up to 6 universities (or multiple courses at, say 3 universities). Part of the form (apart from all the obvious details such as name and address), is half a page where you are asked to write about yourself, your interests and so on. Inevitably you have to make it sound as good as possible, as you're trying to sell yourself to the universities you're applying to...I applied to the universities of Aston, Bath, Bristol, Cambridge, Imperial College London, and Loughborough. All for an MEng (Master of Engineering degree) in Chemical Engineering, except for Bristol where I went for an MEng in Computer Science, so this is tailored towards those courses. Anyway... Since beginning secondary school, I've been very interested in Chemistry and Computing. Besides my normal schoolwork I've read around these two subjects. Because I am also very keen on Mathematics and Physics, I want to pursue a degree course that combines all or most of these. I like writing manuals or "notes" on things related to computers, and have published an article on web design in a small US computer magazine. I have written papers on the use of data-logging and other equipment for my school's science department. This year, I was responsible for laying out my school's entire yearbook using DTP software. Recently, I was employed developing a web site and training staff for an organisation in London. I have been part of several "King's Kids", teams which perform music and dance all over Spain. 在申請(qǐng)日本研究生留學(xué)的時(shí)候,一般有兩種方法,“研究生”和“語(yǔ)言學(xué)?!薄那懊娴臄⑹龅奈覀円呀?jīng)知道日本的“研究生”,其實(shí)并不是中國(guó)的研究生,而是指碩士預(yù)科(即中國(guó)的研究生預(yù)科,或者可以理解為旁聽生)?!把芯可本妥x期間,跟正常碩士生一起,參加教授的課程,參加學(xué)校的科研活動(dòng),一年后參加本學(xué)校的碩士生考試。而“語(yǔ)言學(xué)?!本褪仟?dú)立的教授日本語(yǔ)的學(xué)校,針對(duì)于本科畢業(yè)生的語(yǔ)言學(xué)校通常包括日本語(yǔ)教學(xué)和考研輔導(dǎo)兩個(gè)方面的內(nèi)容。很多學(xué)生就是糾結(jié)在這兩種選擇之中,今天就給大家總結(jié)一下申請(qǐng)日本的研究生和語(yǔ)言學(xué)校的優(yōu)劣勢(shì)。
1、在國(guó)內(nèi)直接“研究生”的優(yōu)勢(shì)與劣勢(shì)
優(yōu)勢(shì):
(1)一步到位。用很多學(xué)生的話說(shuō),以研究生的身份過(guò)去踏實(shí),畢竟大部分的研究生可以優(yōu)先錄取到本學(xué)校的碩士生。雖然像某一流大學(xué)的研究生招生簡(jiǎn)章上面明確寫有“研究生在參加碩士生考試時(shí),不享有任何的優(yōu)先錄取權(quán)?!?。但是說(shuō)句良心話,畢竟和教授接觸的機(jī)會(huì)多,互相了解,旁聽的內(nèi)容往往就是考試重點(diǎn),近水樓臺(tái)先得月,自然考試也會(huì)占上不少便宜,大大提高了錄取比例。
(2)專業(yè)知識(shí)的鞏固。中國(guó)和日本的教學(xué)方式真的不一樣,雖然我在國(guó)內(nèi)沒有上過(guò)研究生和大學(xué),而中國(guó)大學(xué)畢業(yè)的論文和我考研究生時(shí)候的研究計(jì)劃書比起來(lái),簡(jiǎn)直天壤之別。日本對(duì)于專業(yè)知識(shí)的掌握度要求更高,學(xué)術(shù)理論的敘述上更嚴(yán)謹(jǐn),更專業(yè)。上過(guò)一年研究生的學(xué)生,在專業(yè)度上絕對(duì)占有優(yōu)勢(shì),每天耳聞目睹,從前輩身上能學(xué)到不少東西。
劣勢(shì):
(1)沒有日本語(yǔ)課程。研究生畢竟是在大學(xué)院里面學(xué)習(xí),即使可以旁聽到一些比如日本語(yǔ)教育專業(yè)中的日本語(yǔ)課程,其實(shí)并不是系統(tǒng)化的學(xué)習(xí),基礎(chǔ)不扎實(shí),很難短時(shí)間內(nèi)提高日本語(yǔ)水平,更有甚者,無(wú)法跟上老師的授課進(jìn)度,中途退出學(xué)習(xí)。
(2)門檻高。從中國(guó)直接申請(qǐng)研究生,并沒有大家想的那么簡(jiǎn)單。因?yàn)閺闹袊?guó)直接申請(qǐng)研究生,教授完全是從學(xué)生的材料情況來(lái)判斷學(xué)生,比如通常是211、985院校畢業(yè),日本語(yǔ)二級(jí)以上,(有的要求日語(yǔ)一級(jí)) 。托福成績(jī)80以上,大學(xué)成績(jī)平均分80以上等等。所以有的時(shí)候?qū)е聦W(xué)生非常優(yōu)秀但發(fā)了很多郵件給導(dǎo)師但結(jié)果是了無(wú)音訊。很多時(shí)候非常優(yōu)秀的學(xué)生卻被淘汰下來(lái),甚至有的耽誤半年時(shí)間才能再申請(qǐng)。
2、通過(guò)語(yǔ)言學(xué)校申請(qǐng)的優(yōu)勢(shì)與劣勢(shì)
優(yōu)勢(shì):
(1)接受系統(tǒng)的日本語(yǔ)教育,在學(xué)習(xí)中是階段性和系統(tǒng)性的學(xué)習(xí),有計(jì)劃的學(xué)習(xí)是最有效的學(xué)習(xí),在語(yǔ)言學(xué)校中,通常會(huì)被分為8-10階段教學(xué)法,一般來(lái)說(shuō)具備初級(jí)水平的學(xué)生1年內(nèi)可以達(dá)到日本語(yǔ)一級(jí)水平,0起點(diǎn)學(xué)生一年內(nèi)至少可以達(dá)到2級(jí)水平。語(yǔ)言學(xué)校的學(xué)習(xí)期間,學(xué)生可以具備生存的基本條件,就是順暢的語(yǔ)言溝通能力。
(2)為想換專業(yè)的學(xué)生提供過(guò)度途徑。很多學(xué)生在上碩士生的時(shí)候想換專業(yè),但是專業(yè)知識(shí)不夠,肯定是不可以被大學(xué)院錄取的。這就需要先進(jìn)入語(yǔ)言學(xué)校,在學(xué)習(xí)期間,聯(lián)絡(luò)教授,參加教授的講習(xí)會(huì),前輩的論文發(fā)表,多看教授書籍等等.....其實(shí)有很多竅門,可以盡快幫助學(xué)生通過(guò)教授的認(rèn)可,掌握必要的專業(yè)知識(shí)。

一、政府獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金
一類是文省部直屬項(xiàng)目,申請(qǐng)需要由使館或者學(xué)校進(jìn)行推薦,可申請(qǐng)的學(xué)生有資格的限制,需要和日語(yǔ)或者日本文化相關(guān),流程是材料審查、專業(yè)考試和面試,獎(jiǎng)金多而且含金量高。
另一類是學(xué)習(xí)獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)費(fèi),表現(xiàn)好的學(xué)生有資格被學(xué)校推薦獲取官方的直接獎(jiǎng)勵(lì),雖然金額可能和學(xué)校直接發(fā)放的獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金差不多,但是含金量會(huì)更高,同樣需要由學(xué)校推薦,經(jīng)過(guò)審核-面試后才能確認(rèn)資格。

一般是由機(jī)構(gòu)或者企業(yè)設(shè)置的,會(huì)對(duì)獲獎(jiǎng)?wù)哂幸欢ǖ念~外限制要求,除了要滿足基礎(chǔ)的專業(yè)技能考核之外,還會(huì)要求學(xué)生付出一定的勞動(dòng)力,需要在假期或者畢業(yè)后在這里工作一段時(shí)間。
