New York has taken the title of the world’s top fashion capital from Milan. The annual survey suggest that the top five fashion cities are facing competition from Asia and Australia. New York had been the top fashion city for five years, but Milan took the title in 2009. The survey was made by the Global Language Monitor, a US based organization. It tracks the frequency (頻率) of words and phrases in the media, on the Internet and throughout the blog. With the US economy recovering, New York once again took the top title. Hong Kong took second place. It was followed by London, Paris and Los Angeles. The other top 10 cities were Milan, Sydney, Miami, Barcelona and Madrid.
“Because of the new economic situation, the global fashion centers have also changed a lot,” said Bekka Payack, the Manhattan-based fashion reporter for the Global Language Monitor. “The new list show that global fashion centers will change now and then. Compared with the traditional fashion cities, some new ones are performing better and better. ”she said that perhaps this is new trend(趨勢(shì)), and it is the first sign that the traditional top five fashion cities- New York, Paris, London, Milan, and Rome-do not control global fashion any more.

Most people feel lonely sometimes, but it usually only lasts between a few minutes and a few hours,This kind of loneliness is not serious. In fact,it is quite normal. For some people, though, loneliness can last for years. Now researchers say loneliness comes in three different types.
The first kind of loneliness is temporary. This is the most common type.It usually disappears quickly and does not require any special attention. The second kind is situation, for example, family problem, the death of a loved one,or moving to a new place.Although this kind of loneliness can cause physical problems, such as headaches and sleeplessness,it usually does not last for more than a year. The third kind of loneliness is the most serious.Unlike the second type, chronic (the opposite of ‘ temporary’) usually lasts more than two years and has no specific cause.People who experience habitual loneliness have problems socializing and becoming close to others.Unfortunately, many chronically lonely people think there is little or nothing they can do to improve their condition.
Psychologists(心理學(xué)家) agree that one important factor in loneliness is a person’s social contacts, for example, friends, family members,co-workers,etc.We depend on various people for different reasons. For instance.our family give us emotional support, our parents and teachers give us guidance, and our friends share similar interests and activities.
However, psychologists have found that, though lonely people may have many social contacts, they sometimes feel they should have more. They question their popularity.
Psychologists are trying to find ways to help habitually lonely people for two reasons:they are unhappy and unable to socialize and there is a connection between chronic loneliness and serious illness such as heart disease, while temporary and situational loneliness can be a sad,and sometimes dangerous condition.
29.How would you treat temporary loneliness according to the passage?
A. Talk to friends. B. Go to see a doctor.

30.Why do psychologists want to help chronically lonely people?

C. Chronic loneliness can not be overcome.
D. Chronic loneliness can cause serious illness.

A. the time it lasts B. the places where it appears
C. different people it happen to D. different seasons when it appears

What will man be like in the future—in 5000 or even 50,000 years from now? We can only make guesses, of course, but we can be sure that he will be different from what he is today, for man is slowly changing all the time.
Let us take an obvious example. Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average, men are about three inches taller. Five hundred years is relatively short period of time, so we may assume that man will continue to grow taller. Again, in the modern world we use our brains a great deal. Even so, we still make use of only about 20% of the brain’s capacity. As time goes on, however, we shall have to use our brains more and more, and eventually we shall need larger ones! This is likely to bring about a physical change to the head, in particular the forehead, will grow larger.
Nowadays our eyes are in constant use. In fact, we use them so much that very often they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over very long period of time it is likely that man’s eyes will grow stronger.
On the other hand, we tend to make less use of our arms and legs. These, as a result, are likely to grow weaker. At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive because they are used a great deal in modern life.
But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body altogether in course of time because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer. In the future, then, both sexes are likely to be bald.
Perhaps all this gives the impression that future man will not be a very attractive creature to look at! This may well be true. All the same, in spite of all these changes, future man will still have a lot in common with us. He will still be a human being, with thoughts and emotions similar to our own.
32. Which of the following serves as the evidence that man is changing?
A. Man’s hair is getting thinner and thinner.
B. Man has got stronger eyes now than he ever had.
C. Man has been growing taller over the past 500 years.
D. Man’s arms and legs have become lighter and weaker.
33. Which of the following is TRUE about a human being in the future?
A. He thinks and feels in a different way.
B. He has smaller eyes and wears better glasses.
C. He is hairless because hair is no longer useful.
D. His fingers grow weaker because he doesn’t use them.
34. The passage mainly tells us that ________________.
A. man’s life will be different in the future
B. future man will look quite different from us
C. man is growing taller and uglier as time passes
D. Man's organs' functions will change
35. It is implied that ________
A. human beings will become less attractive in the future
B. body organs will become poorer if they are not used often
C. human beings hope for a change in the future life
D. future life is always predictable
