My colleague Jenny was the answer to the question. She is a warm-hearted and smart girl. The first two months in my current company was a hard time when I met all kinds of difficulties. I couldn’t adapt to the new environment or catch the pace of the company. But as a newbie, I really wanted to perform well. Everyone seemed unfriendly and cold except her. Jenny saw through my awkwardness and uneasiness in the first week because I was always the latest one to leave. One day she seemed to intentionally wait for me for a long time to go with her and asked me what she could do for me. Since we were in the same department, I was very thankful to her kindness. I expressed my confusions and helplessness of my work. She gave me some useful advice and time management plans. Offering her working experience, she showed a great sense of understanding to my situations. In the following days, she even encouraged me to communicate with other colleagues. Everything began to be on track since then.
I once asked Jenney that why she was willing to offer me so much help during that time. She said she thought that I was a great and ambitious girl. And more importantly, I looked like her little sister. Oh my god. It’s my look that plays a role! However, I will appreciate her kindness all the time. The story told me to be more open minded to a new environment. There are always nice guys who are willing to make contacts with you. “提問”在雅思口語課堂中的妙用
“課堂提問”在教學過程中是一個常見的環(huán)節(jié),想必各位并不陌生,但是關于其有效性,不知道大家是否有所體會。參加了英國文化教育協(xié)會雅思教師培訓課程 (British Council IELTS Teachers Essentials)后,我深刻認識到了這一點在雅思口語教學中的重要性。
然而,在呈現(xiàn)“提問”的方式方法之前,很有必要先談論一下課堂提問的原因和必要性。
首先,在口語課上,大多數(shù)的雅思學員在面對某些問題的時候,無法充分展開回答,或存在一定程度上的思維定勢,即使背誦了萬千詞匯,也很難發(fā)揮出它們的價值。此時老師們可以通過提問的方式,幫助學生打通思路,從而更好地展示自己的英語口語交流能力。
第二,講完一個知識點或上完一堂課后,如果僅僅是老師自己總結,學生可能沒有辦法充分吸收課程的精髓。此時也可以通過提問的方式,讓學生參與進來,并且以此來檢驗教學效果。
第三,對于學生的錯誤表達,如果教師只是單純地指出,學生很可能不會意識到自己的問題所在。相反,運用提問的方式,可以讓學生更加深刻地意識到自己的語言問題,并牢記在心。
既然“課堂提問”如此重要,如何操縱才能行之有效呢?為此,筆者總結了一些自己在口語課堂里經(jīng)常使用的三種提問方式,并結合具體實例,供大家參考。
1.“WH-提問”
所謂“WH-”,即以“Wh-”開頭的特殊疑問詞,分別是“When, Where, Who, What, and How”。這種方式特別適用于幫助學生拓展思路、豐富表達。
比如:在回答問題’Do you like watching TV’? 的時候,多數(shù)學生僅以’I think it’s very interesting’ 擴充答案;而在回答’Do you like reading books’?時,學生們又不約而同地想到’It can help me to acquire some knowledge and broaden my horizons’。這樣的答案較為普遍,而且層次單一,很難取得更好的分數(shù)。
這個時候,可以運用不同的“Wh-”開頭的問題詢問學生,幫助他們拓展思路,并更有邏輯地展開回答。針對剛才提到的學生們給出的兩個答案。教師可以運用這種方式提問學生。
例如,當聽到學生認為看電視’interesting’的時候,可以緊接著提問他/他們:’How’s interesting?’;同理,當學生回應“讀書可以幫助他們增長知識、開闊眼界”的時候,可以順勢問他/他們:’What kinds of knowledge do you find most useful?’ 這樣學生會根據(jù)自己的情況展開討論,說起話來也會更加流利自然,不會因此而導致交流中斷。
2. “定向”提問
這里的“定向”指的是根據(jù)某一個具體內容提出具有固定答案的問題。學生在回答這類問題的時候,比較容易給出答案,而且教師也可以即時判斷答案的正確性。
一般這種提問方式多用于課堂總結,教師可以此來檢驗教學成果,而學生也能以此進行查漏補缺。通常這類問題設計得都比較顯而易見,能即刻抓住重點信息,不會占用太多的時間。
比如:在講完雅思口語考試流程后,我通常會針對三個部分的重點內容進行這樣的提問,比如:’Do you think the examiner will answer some questions in the first part of one speaking test? ‘In the second part, do you think the examiner will stop us after we speak 40 seconds? ’What kinds of questions you will be asked in the third part of one speaking test, questions about yourself or other people?’
在回答問題的過程中,學生會自然而然地回顧所學到的知識,也因此會對這些知識留下更加深刻地印象。一般來說,讓學生親身參與課堂,會比教師一味灌輸式地講解達到更好地學習效果。
3. “重復”提問
“重復”提問不是指針對于某個問題的重復,而是對于學生的錯誤表達進行重復,讓學生自己發(fā)現(xiàn)問題,并改正錯誤。正如文章開頭提到的,很多時候,如果教師直接改正學生的語言問題,很可能導致這些錯誤再次重現(xiàn)。
為了讓學生們更好地意識到自己的語言問題,建議老師們可以采取這樣的方式進行提問。記得有一次在學生進行課堂討論的時候,我聽到了一個學生說了這樣一句話:’I’m like listening to music…’,并且在后面的對話中重復了兩三次類似的表達。
聽罷,我走到學生身邊,輕身地問了她一句: ‘I’m like listening to music?’ 想了幾秒鐘,這個學生很快意識到了自己的問題,并且即刻糾正。在接下來的幾個口語練習的環(huán)節(jié)里,我又關注了一下這個學生的表達,發(fā)現(xiàn)她沒有再犯同樣的錯誤。這說明在一定程度上,她已經(jīng)意識到了這個問題。
以上三種提問方式在口語教學過程中都發(fā)揮了一定的積極作用。一方面,可以幫助學生進步;另一方面,也可以幫助老師們更好地進行教學。當然在“提問”的過程中,還要注意問題的數(shù)量、提問的對象以及提問的方式,否則很可能會適得其反。
比如,在用“Wh-”提問的時候,必要時需要控制題目的數(shù)量,否則會耽誤課程進度。而且在提問的過程中,也可以結合課堂教學內容進行一定的總結,以便學生更好地消化吸收。另外,不論提出什么樣的問題,大多數(shù)情況下,可以先向“集體”或“小組”提問,再向“個人”提問,這樣可以避免有些學生因為顧及面子或答錯題而喪失信心。
除此之外,在針對學生的語言錯誤進行提問的時候,是否在聽到錯誤的一瞬間就打斷學生的回答,需要老師們考慮清楚。否則可能會令人感到此舉有點莽撞、不夠禮貌。
再者,如果反復提問了幾次相同的問題之后,學生都沒有意識到自己的錯誤,那么教師有必要給予一定的解釋,幫助學生改正。
最后值得一提的是,問題的設計要根據(jù)一個班學員的整體情況以及教學內容而定,這樣才不會因為問題本身對學生和教師造成困擾,進而影響教學質量和學習進度。
雅思口語高頻短語如何記憶
很多同學在學習短語的過程中,經(jīng)常遇到的問題是很多短語要不記不住,要不短時間記住了考試的時候用不上短語記憶和單詞記憶一樣,關鍵是要使用。一個短語如果在不同語境下用3次以上,就會變成你的有效詞匯。如果你不斷使用,那么這個短語就會到脫口而出的程度。
因此,我建議的方式就是平時學了某些話題的短語,你可以找到最近??嫉囊恍﹑art2題目,嘗試看一下這些短語,能否編一個故事,套在這個part2的話題上,在這個過程中,某些短語就會得到很好的練習和使用。
我下面用一個例子來闡述,譬如說我今天學了一些網(wǎng)絡商務的短語。那么我可以去找一下網(wǎng)絡上一些part2的題目,看看哪個涉及到電子商務的話題。譬如說最近考的一個話題是關于你做過的一個有償工作,那么我就假設我在一個網(wǎng)店打過工,然后圍繞這個說一下,復習一下網(wǎng)絡購物的相關短語。然后再套用其他話題,譬如說最近考的一個話題是成功的小公司。那么我就假想自己知道一個小的電子商務公司,做代購,最后很出名。
然后下面你可以對著題目說,在這個過程中,可以想想有什么短語可以用上去。一邊說一邊寫出來。這樣就等于使用了一些短語。
