SCENE③ A 吉娜一早進(jìn)公司
【我開了一整晚夜車】
Zina: Dave, 1) wake up.
吉娜： 戴夫，醒醒。
Dave: Whaah? Zina? What time is it?
戴夫： 啊?吉娜?現(xiàn)在幾點(diǎn)了?
Zina: It's seven-thirty. I want to know who left this note on my desk.
吉娜： 七點(diǎn)半。我要知道是誰在我桌上留了這張紙條。
Dave: What note? I can't see. I just 2) pulled an all-nighter.
戴夫： 什么紙條?我看不到。我開了一整晚夜車。
Zina: It's a little green 3) post-it note, 4) stuck right in the middle of my computer screen.
吉娜： 是小張的綠色便利貼，就粘在我電腦屏幕的中間。
Dave: And? What does it say? Isn't there a name?

語言詳解
A: Where should I put this picture of Fiona?
我該把費(fèi)歐娜這張照片擺哪兒?
B: Just stick it on your front door.
把它貼在你的前門就好了。
【It's seven-thirty. 七點(diǎn)半?！?/p>
在這個句型中，it指時間。雖然這句話也可以簡化為Seven-thirty.但還是用原句型較為適當(dāng)。
it除了指時間以外，也用于指天氣或距離，例如：
It's very hot today.
今天天氣很熱。
It's about 400 kilometers from Taipei to Kenting.
從臺北到墾丁大約400公里。
A:How far is it from here to Hualien?
從這里到花蓮有多遠(yuǎn)?
B:It's about 150 kilometers.
大約150公里。
A:How is the weather like down there?
那里天氣怎么樣?
B:It's raining at the moment.
此刻正在下雨。
1) wake up 醒來;awake是“醒著的”。
2) pull an all-nighter 開夜車，熬夜
3) post-it note 可貼的便條紙，系3M公司出品的辦公用具，現(xiàn)已成為同類產(chǎn)品的代名詞。
4) stick (v.) 粘貼
5) rhumba (n.) 倫巴舞
6) admirer (n.) 仰慕者，secret admirer 是“暗戀者”。

【我得要有動力】
Vince: Your 3.5 percent 1) share is going to be worth at least a million.

Zina: I need to be 2) motivated, Vince. 3) Multi-motivated. As in multi-million.

Vince: What if I said no?

【用 as in... 做補(bǔ)述】
as in這個短語是用來補(bǔ)述，好讓意思能讓人更明白，常用在解釋拼字的時候：
A: My name is Meg.
我叫做梅格。
B: Is that M as in Mary, E as in elephant, and G as in girl?
那是Mary的m、elephant的e，girl的g嗎?
as in可以用來進(jìn)一步解釋情況，猶如中文里的“像……那種”：
A: I just ate a Chinese buffet for only 2.99 dollars.
我剛只花了2.99美元吃了份中式自助餐。
B: As in the all-you-can-eat kind? That's so cheap!
是吃到飽的那種嗎?還真便宜!
你也可以用as in來提問，以確定自己沒有誤會對方的意思:

瑪莉： 我猜我只是有點(diǎn)緊張。 我把所有都給了“資訊王”，而且......
Zina: ...and what if it doesn't 1) work out, right?
吉娜： ......而且要是行不通怎么辦，對不對?
Mary: 2) Exactly.
瑪莉： 完全正確。
Zina: You need to 3) quit thinking like a loser. InfoKing is going to 4) kick butt. You know how I know?

【quit thinking 停止……想法】
quit跟stop一樣，后面跟著-ing 表示 “停止某種動作”，后面跟著不定詞時意思是 “停下來做某項(xiàng)動作”，例如：quit smoking“戒煙”，stop to smoke“停下來抽煙”。
A: We have been running for an hour. Let's stop to take a rest.
我們已經(jīng)跑了一個鐘頭了。讓我們停下來休息。
B: But be sure you don't smoke.
但是你可不能抽煙。
A: I promised you to quit smoking, I honor my word.
我答應(yīng)過你要戒煙。我遵守諾言。
1) work out 行得通
2) exactly (adv.) 的確，正是
3) quit (v.) 停止
4) kick butt (俚) 踢屁股，意即“大勝，擊潰”

A: Arnold began managing his own company at the age of 23.
阿諾二十三歲就管理他自己的公司。
B: He must be a genius.
他一定是個天才。
【He can't see the big picture. 他看不到大局?！?/p>
big picture是“全局，大局”的意思，can't see the big picture是指僅能著眼于眼前發(fā)生的事，無法看出事物的整體性，沒有綜觀全局，長期規(guī)劃的能力。
A: We'll only be able to pay everyone's salaries after our business establishes itself.
唯有在開始營運(yùn)之后，我們才能付大家薪水。
B: But Johnnie can't see the big picture. He's unwilling to wait. He wants to get paid now.
不過強(qiáng)尼看不到大局。他不愿意等。他現(xiàn)在就要拿薪水。
你也可以勸告、建議他人look at the big picture“從大處著眼，衡量全局”。
A: I want all our employees to get equal pay.
我要我們所有的員工都拿一樣多的薪水。
B: You've got to look at the big picture. It's just not possible right now.
你得要衡量全局。這在目前是不可能的。
